From burning single herbs to the rich and delicately compounded perfumes of the ancients, botanical incense has been a part of the herbalist’s repertoire for thousands of years. So much so that royalty would express their wealth to each other through gifts of incense, in some places its value even surpassing gold. But why are we so fascinated with ephemeral scents born of the upward smoke? What brings us back to releasing an herb’s virtue through fire, generation after generation?
In this interactive workshop, learn the historical and present day uses for botanical incense. Learn how to incorporate burning herbs into your daily rituals, to assist in recovering from illness, and even for more specific purposes like studying. Not only that, but also learn how to make your own incense from home. We will cover how to tie your own herbal smoke bundles, theory for mixing compounded incense blends, and the instructor’s personal fascination: traditional recipes for an ancient Egyptian temple incense called Kyphi.
